Downhill Cruise
Downhill cruise control helps you
keep a set speed while driving downhill. It uses the auxiliary brake together
with an optimized gear selection and the wheel brakes to maintain the set
speed.
Warning
Downhill cruise control can
never replace you as a driver! You have the ultimate responsibility for
maintaining a safe speed.
Activating downhill cruise control
Symbol for Downhill cruise control.
The Downhill cruise control key is located on the steering wheel.
Press the key (7) until the symbol
is visible. Current speed is now set and the truck maintains this speed.
When the downhill cruise control is
activated, both the symbol and set speed are shown in the instrument
display.
You can use the brake pedal or the
auxiliary brake without deactivating the function.
Changing the set speed
Change the set speed using the plus
(2) or minus (3) keys. A short press will increase/decrease speed by 1 km/h, a
long press will increase/decrease speed by 5 km/h. The speed cannot be set
higher than the legal road speed limit for the truck.
Switch off Downhill cruise control
If you use the accelerator pedal or
press the 0 key, the downhill cruise control is switched off and the symbol
disappears from the instrument display.
Brake protection
To protect the wheel brakes from
overheating or overuse, downhill cruise can temporarily switch to reduced mode
and only use auxiliary brakes. Reduced mode is indicated by a different
downhill cruise symbol colour and the message "Downhill Cruise Control
functionality reduced" is shown in the instrument display.
In reduced mode, the braking
capacity might be reduced.
Downhill cruise control
automatically returns to normal function when the wheel brakes have recovered.
Reduced mode is only used above 36
km/h. Below 30 km/h, the system automatically returns to normal mode.
Switching off Auto Wheel Brake
The Auto Wheel Brake function can be
switched off and only the auxiliary brake is used to maintain the downhill
cruise speed.
